THE CAST

Eva Green

EVA GREEN (Serafina Pekkala) made her film debut in Oscar®-winning director Bernardo Bertolucci’s critically acclaimed The Dreamers, a triangular love story set against the Paris riots of 1968, starring opposite Michael Pitt and Louis Garrel.

Born in Paris, Green studied at the St. Paul Drama School. This was followed by a course at the London Weber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art.

She began her acting career on stage, appearing in 2001 in two plays: “Turceret” directed by Gerard Descartes, and “Jalousie En Trois Fax” directed by Didier Long. The latter was highly acclaimed and earned her a nomination for Les Molieres, France’s most prestigious theatre award, in the category of Best Female Newcomer.

Eva Green as Serafina

In 2004, she starred alongside Kristin Scott Thomas and Romain Duris in Jean-Paul Salome’s French-language film Arsène Lupin and, in 2005, she made her Hollywood film debut as the female lead in Ridley’s Scott’s Crusades epic Kingdom of Heaven with Orlando Bloom and Liam Neeson.

She most recently starred opposite her co-star from The Golden Compass, Daniel Craig, in Casino Royale, in which she played Treasury officer Vesper Lynd. She recently completed filming Franklyn, directed by Gerald McMorrow, which is set in futuristic London.

Green was presented with the Rising Star Award from BAFTA in 2007, following her performance in Casino Royale.

    Hello Eva!
I wanted to write in to say that you look exactly as I imagined Serafina when I read the books, and you look stunning in your costume.
I think you are a very talented actress and Serafina would be happy to have you in her shoes.

The best casting decision yet, in my opinion. Her beauty is ethereal, almost otherworldly, yet there is something rock-solid in her demeanor. Her expression holds both maternal warmth and ice-cold fury. She seems to be the embodiment of womanhood, in all its fire and mystery.

Serafina was always one of my favorite characters in the book. I’m thrilled to see such an excellent actress portraying her.

Well at first I would have thought the role of Serafina to be better suited for someone with a bit more younger look and lighter hair colour (serafina’s hair is said to be blonde in the book), like keira knightley but Eva Green apparently gives a pretty good image of the character. She gives of a nature-close ambience to the role which, i think is pretty much a close description of Serafina and all the other witches in the story.

I love this series and can’t wait for the movie to come out! But, Serifinna (Eva Green) looks just a little bit scary and intimidating. The director should probally fix that!

Well dummy, they can’t change it now. The actors were already chosen. Plus they already started filming.
P.S. Eva Green is one sexy mama!

Beautiful, and eerily similar to the character in the book. Although the hair is different funnily enough I always imagined Serafina with dark hair anyway.

ok, so she’s SUPPOSED to be powerful and intimidating, she’s a witch for crying out loud! also, what’s with her not having/needing a broom? that’s how lyra is identified as the child of the prophecy to the witches’ consul: she chooses serafina’s BROOM from a bunch of brooms.

    grrr…..

ps: also, she’s queen of a witch clan and hundreds of years old. so yeah, really powerful and intimidating.

I think that the only thing that is missing is how she is supposed to be much wiser than her age appears, and i dont think she quite pulls that off…. althought im hard-pressed to think of someone that could.

I was trying to remember WHERE i saw you for the first time, then I saw your filmography, and then I understood: you made Kingdom of Heaven! You have particular eyes, eyes that always smile, so, I think that for Serafina’s role you’re proper.

Eva is a great cast for Serafina, I just hope that they made her appear more youthful with red lips, and not pale as in the picture above. Pale lips seem lifeless, which Serafina is most certainly not :)

With all due respect and consideration, Conner, but no one knows how these characters are really portrayed until the film is released. I have seen all the clips and trailers, read the trilogy until books fall apart and if I am not going to cast judgment, neither should anyone else. Let’s give it a chance! We get to experience this epic story again and in a different form! How exciting! No movie is ever exactly like the book. EVER. 2 months and one week to go!!

a great choice, an amazingly illuminative actress, who lit up Casino Royale. From the pix, I think its good that she doesn’t have to stereotypically sit on her broom to fly.

To me Eva is the personification of feminine beauty. She is extremely versatile and can naturally fit into any role. One can easily undertand this if they have seen all her movies. She is perfect for the role. Eva is a natural blonde and could have left her hair undyed to suit the role of Serafina in this film. Personally I’d prefer jet black, it gives a striking contrast that enhances her facial beauty and character.

WhooHooo, way ro go Eva !!!

As an (I presume) reader of the book, I was entranced by its magical story. It was great to find a new author for me to follow.
I hope that the film will live up to the quality of the book, and that there will be two more films to follow the rest of the trilogy.
This is NOT just another Harry Potter copy, you will realise that as soon as you start to read.
    A book for all ages…
Thanks to Phillip for the book, and to the casting crew for Eva! Rrrrrrowl!

Loved Kingdom of Heaven, haven’t read the books yet, but am looking forward to it now. Also enjoyed Casino Royale and thought your beauty and sophistication was great for the role. Very real, but not girl-next-door, very attractive and if I knew a thing about acting then I wouldn’t sound this shallow with my post here. Best of luck

I have to say, Eva (if you do read this) that your appearance really changes from movie to movie. I believe you have an amazing talent in taking you surroundings and making them seem real.

I watch Kingdom of Heaven about 100 times, I brought the DvD and I studied the crusades. The main reason I did buy that movie was because I love the crusades so much, but when I noticed you in the movie you were able to give it a different feel and atmosphere that I felt the other actors did not.

I read in a review that you don’t get much screen time which is unfortunet. I still can’t wait to see you play the part!

I honestly think Eva would have been much better suited to play Marisa Coulter and Nicole Kidman should’ve played Serafina Pekkala! As far as I can recall from the book, Marisa was dark, charming and enchanting whereas Serafina was blond, with Scandinavian features. I guess they just wanted to give Nicole the bigger part because she is the biggest star. In my humble opinion they should have given Marisa’s part to Eva Green. They are equally great actresses.
