I LOVE THIS MOVICE!! Totally awesome. I found it easy to understand, exciting, and fun. I was really drawn into it. And my daughter loved it, too. I loved this movice. In fact, at the end, we didn’t want to leave the theater; we wanted to see the sequel (well, then what happened?). I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!

I was expecting to see much more content and a longer movie. I had the feeling it was fast forwarded … i hope it won’t be the same with the next 2 ones or i guess i’ll just get the dvd’s …
Anyways, it was a great experience to finally be able to put a face on the chracters and have a view on Lyra’s world so .. thanks : )

I have to say that, hands - down, Chris Weitz captured the heart of this book, in his wonderful rendering of The Golden Compass.

It is a wonderfully stunning adaptation of one of my favorite books of all time.
And Dakota Blue Richards should pick up an oscar nomination for her portrayal of Lyra.
I was really astounded at how well she brought out the character of this difficult, clever and staright-forward girl that a lot of us Pullman fans fell in love with in this triology.

The only thing that i found very disappointing was the way in which they chose to end this film.

Asriel’s final purpose and intentions aren’t revealed. Lyra’s future is left riding north in an aeronaut’s ballon. Asreiel’s and Coulter’s relationship is not brought to light as clearly as it is written in the final chapter. Mr. Pullman brought a lot of loose ends together in the end of The Golden Compass and I felt it was important that the film do the same, because the story of The Subtle Knife starts out on an entirely different note altogether, with a new main character, and a new set of circumstances, and that the film should have left Lyra’s world completely behind her as she journeys forth into her new life.

is this happy ending syndrome or what?

I was just so disappointed, and left the theater feeling empty, like someone had handed me a present nicely packaged and just as I was about to open the surprise, they take it back and say “No, you cannot have it, yet.”

I really was disappointed that the final climactci scene was not brought forth at the end of this film, as it should have been.

Other than that, the film was delightful. Beatiful. Stunning.

    Thank you

I did not think I would find another film to equal The Lord of The Rings Triligogy, or The Chronicals of Narnia, but I have. New Line have pulled it off again with The Golden Compass. Can’t wait for the second instalment.
I have now started reading Northern Lights and feel that this should have been on my book list a long time ago.

I thought this was a very well made movie, but I did not like the fact that the movie cut out the last 50 pages of the book, the movie cut out the climax of the book, and i am quite disappointed.

This movie was absolutely incredible! I even cried. I loved Lord of the Rings and I adore Harry Potter, but this was something special and unique. Please don’t let the bible belt sheep stop you from making the sequels! Please make the sequels. I will go to the cinema and watch this movie again with my family, I’ll watch it again with friends, I will tell everyone I know that they MUST go see it! This movie is truly a masterpiece, please don’t hold back from making the sequels, don’t let the Magisterium have their way!

This movie was brilliantly executed. I loved the way that it was visually crafted and the way that much of the editing made it more accessible to a wider audience, namely younger children. This is the kind of movie that reminds us to value our real selves and not let anyone crush our spirits.
    Thank you!

I have not read the books yet, but I’ve seen the movie. I intend to read the books. It’s a great film, one of my favorites. There was really good acting, and it was really exciting. Can’t wait for the DVD to come out. I’m looking forward to the other movies as well.
