This trailer is absolutely freaking awsome! But, it’s strange because you see the end of the film, so, it’s being cut? Please new line, give us all the film, the end of the traielr is what look more awsome!

This trailer is sooo amazing! WOW!!!
I love it!. But New Line pleeease donßt show the ending of the first book in the second movie first. -

I know that this is a thread for views on the trailer, but I agree with the comments in respect to the internet speculation of a revised ending to the movie. It doesn’t make sense to move the last 3 chapters of the first book to the beginning of the second film (if there is one)…there will be no passing of time between when Lyra leaves her world and when Will finds her in a near feral state in book two!!! New Line, please end the speculation once and for all and confirm that you will keep the original ending…we don’t need happy endings, look at Harry Potter 4, Empire Strikes Back or your own LOTR:Fellowship of the Ring (Borromir dying) for that matter!!

The new trailer is INCREDIBLE; especially the last 45 seconds. I must say that fans of the series and even non fans find the trailer to be impressive and gorgeous to look at. I do hope that the end of The Golden Compass stays intact and is not removed to the beginning of The Subtle Knife. (Talk about a moving and amazing twist ending!) I don’t know if I could bear to wait another few years to see the end in the next film. Those scenes with Asriel, Lyra, and Coulter with the aurora blazing over head sold this film for me and many others. I dearly hope it stays in! On a side not, the bears and daemons look AWESOME! Thank you New Line for bringing my favorite trilogy to life. I will be seeing this in theatres with all my friends.

The Final Trailer for The Golden Compass looks incredible especially the end, but I heard that the final of the book is going to be cut from the movie and but into the subtle knife. I really hope that this is not true. please keep it the way it is in the book thats what sold me to read the books in the first place, and what my friends and I are looking forward to seeing in the movie.

This trailer is really fantastic. I love it, seems that they have achieved a very good film, can’t wait. But i’m in favor to keep the final to the film, for me, what has impressed to see this film, was the last scenes of this trailer, you have to do justice to this! People will be very disappointed is they don’t see this northern lights that are seen in the trailers. The kissing between coulter and asriel, when coulter is in the north and say “come to me lyra”. This is what people are expecting, so don’t cut, please, it’s very important for all fans and for people to come to see the others.
On the other hand, i’m still exited.

I too, wish the ending to remain intact, but it would not be a big deal to me if it is latched onto the beginning of The Subtle Knife.

Although I loved the trailer, I have to admit I’m a bit depressed at the voice change for Iorek. I thought the previous voice captured him perfectly. Now, with Ian McKellen’s terribly recognizable voice, I can’t help but picture Gandalf or one of his other roles.

The visuals look great but why has the dialogue been changed to remove all mention of the alethiometer, using golden compass instead - watch the earlier trailer if you want to see what I mean - same scenes, slightly different dialogue. Let’s hope this isn’t in the final release of the movie that finds its way to the UK.
Oh… and a bit of history. The word Golden Compass is a mis reading of the phrase Golden Compasses, a reference to a feature of a painting by William Blake that Pullman refers to. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the alethiometer.
And another point - Lord Asriel never meets Mrs Coulter at the North Pole at the end of Northern Lights. They only ever meet and embrace as they defeat the Metatron at the end of The Amber Spyglass (book 3) - thought you’d like to know!
Hope this crass misrepresentation doesn’t spoil the movie which is looking pretty spectacular

That’s not true. They do meet at the North Pole, where he asks her to come with him to the new world, but she turns him down. She then leaves and Lyra follows him.
Anyways, I absolutely love the trailer. It’s amazing and has made me if possible even more excited about the book coming to live on the screen. I’ve waited many years for this. That’s why I’m concerned with the decision of moving the ending. I’m afraid it will have a negative effect for the storyline with the consequence that the movie will be ruined. Next after that, seeing as how The Subtle Knife is still depending on the financial success of the Golden Compass, we might never see those scenes.

Stuart, you’re actually wrong there. Lord Asriel and Mrs Coulter do meet at the end of Northern Lights (Golden Compass). I don’t want to spoil it for people, but they definitely meet and… stuff.

Stuart, what do you mean Lord Asriel doesn’t meet Mrs Coulter? I have the book right here and I can say pretty confidently that they do indeed meet at the end, before Asriel walks to the other world.
The trailers was great, especially the end. It could have been paced a little bit differently though.

After repeatedly teasing us with the previews of the climax (the Bridge to the stars chapter) as well as advertising extensively on it (merchandises that feature characters in arctic get-up especially a whole booth of it in the Comic Con exhibit), it will be terribly disappointing for the wait of 2 more months to extend to 2 long years especially when it had been displayed all over the place, increasing audiences’ expectation. Now it’s depressing to watch the official trailer’s ending, knowing they will take Time to be unveiled.

I don’t understand why Weitz included scenes from the original ending in this trailer when he plans on cutting those scenes? Is it because they are lacking material? Probably. I also don’t know why they think they have to call the alethiometer the “Golden Compass.” I guess they have to dumb it down for the general public.

stay with the original end.

Why Is there so much talk of religion and not good atheist or what not- hasn’y the book been out since the 90’s. Why complain now? You don’t like it you don’t have to watch– That’s is why we live in the US we have a choice not to do or do. The trailer looks really exciting cannot wait for the movie to be out.

I really love the trailer. Though I have to admit I liked to old one better. And some of the older scenes have seen better days, I mean, what’s wrong with: alethiometer, it sounds mucht better then the golden compass.
I think they shouldn’t at the last part of the books. It is such an open ending (if you know what I mean) That means they’ll have to stop when lyra goes to the other world, It doesn’t quite cover as the ending of a movie.
Sorry for my bad English, it isn’t that good, I know

Brilliant trailer but why would you want to hold off on the ending of the book, you can easily use the same reel in the second movie as a kind of recap of the first. Is this New Line idea of good business, hold off on a scene that is said to be brilliant for a movie still in the adaptation stage? Are they sure they want to make the second and third movie? Leave the ending, don’t ruin what Weitz and his cast & crew have done,

I have tried to post a lengthy comment twice regarding the ending change, and both times, my comments have gone unposted. I’m not going to try to recreate what I wrote in those posts, although I must say that, unless this oversight was due to some sort of technical mishap, I must say that I’m more than disappointed. Anyway, I just want to say that I certainly hope you have some people out surfing the internet and seeing for themselves that people are hugely disappointed at the decision to move the ending of The Golden Compass to the beginning of The Subtle Knife. Since the only comments regarding this decision have been vague and elusive at best, I cannot say what your motivations are; however, this decision makes neither financial nor cinematical sense and will leave audiences feeling disappointed. I feel that this modification is a poor repayment to the fans of the books who have been tirelessly and unofficially working with you to promote this film to people who have not read the books. I also feel that the decision reeks with artistic cowardice, and I would like to point out the success of a similarly dark cliffhanger ending at the conclusion of Fellowship of the Ring. Please, please, PLEASE leave the ending of The Golden Compass intact. It is one of the most poignant and affecting endings ever written, and all early reports have said that the cinematic version of this ending looks stunning (and kudos to your production teams on that). Ending the film before that point will surely feel clumsy, unnatural, and disappointing. Believe me, I have tried several times to imagine how this change could be accomplished successfully (as have many of my friends), and although neither I nor my friends are in the movie business, we know what makes good films, and the ending of The Golden Compass is cinematically perfect. Please–the scenes have already been filmed; don’t move them to the beginning of the next film. Oh, and another thought–don’t you think it will be jarring for the audience if Lyra is one age at the beginning of The Subtle Knife and noticeably older ten minutes later in the same film? Any aging on Miss Richards’ part will surely be more easily understood if the audience sees her as one age at the end of The Golden Compass and noticeably older when we see her again in The Subtle Knife, after her stay in Cittàgazze. Anyway, I hope that this comment gets posted, and again, I must reiterate that the rest of the film looks stunning, and all other aspects seem to be pitch-perfect (I am actually pleased at the casting of Sir Ian McKellen as Iorek, even though Nonso Anozie was exceptional).

dont put the end from the book to the second movie NEW LINE, PLEASE:D
