So…If you read, you will see that the religion theme has been watered down a little, but the article confirms thay Craig and Kidman have signet for The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass!!

The film looks fantastic, I can’t wait to see it. I am in awe of the people who have created this - what talent! Can I ask though, why they did not start with the first book?

Thank you for the scans, both Kidman and Green look beautiful :). Of course, they’ve watered it down, you can’t hammer stuff like that at audiences these days, also, the church is not so powerful in other countries that will be seeing the movie, at least, they aren’t in the UK so turning the organisation in the film into an authority that is not defined is probably a good thing.
Goodluck to Weitz, the cast and crew and to New Line.

@Alex: Actually, The Golden Compass is the first book in the trilogy. Maybe the switch to the US title instead of the UK Northern Lights has you confused.

Those are amazing pictures of both Nicole Kidman and Eva Green!

Well, I hope nothing has been watered down too much. The Magesterium and the church were one and the same in the trilogy, but here they’ve made the Magesterium a government founded on the basis of religion (a latin phrase on the Magesterium floor helps comfirm that religion is in the film, just more ambiguous). It’s not anti-Catholic, it’s anti-everything dealing with organized authority, religious and secular. Pullman has even said that he intended the Magesterium to control other parts of society and not just religion. My biggest qualm is the title. I wish they’d stuck with Northern Lights since it is the title Pullman first gave to the novel. Plus, the alethiometer is NOT a compass!

yes, is not a compass, bue pullman himself put this name in the american books, SO, if the author changed, i guess is quite acetable. i like the title, get more close to the other two…

yes!!!! i cant wait any longer!! well, i do hope its not watered down too much, but i must admit, the book is kind of odd to be a kids book, i mean the elements and the cutting the soul out…i mean…kids book? i dont think so. and even though i loved the books, it was kind of creepy for me. i was also hoping they’d do the second and third, and i guess my hopes came true!!! i cant wait, i mean, you can already tell the cast is great, and I’m already a HUGE fan of Kidman, and Mrs. Coulter was always my favorite character…they mesh so well together in my mind, its just awesome!!!!

hello im from the philippines.. we all can’t wait this film to be veiwed here and it has a good review and where hoping that nicole kidman would come to promote the film in our country. it is good that same actors would still be on the second and third book installment to play the part especially they are the main character of the book so that the desire of fantazing the story of the character continues.
