Are you kidding me? This is the best book I have ever read. I believe most of it is very telling of our current times and the behavior of the “Church” throughout history, as well as what may come in the future. I hope they do not downplay the real story in this book and let everyone see and take what they want form it. You are worried about “young people” , come on, look what “young people” are actually exposed to these days.
free your mind to all possibilities, find your individually, care.

Well, it really depends on your opinion. I mean, “young people” are faced with inappropriate images and TV shows and movies. Surely some different opinions on the making of the world could not hurt!
Monique, I understand, though.
Someone was wearing too much eyeliner and mascara. Maybe it was Eva Green. And Lyra’s dress was ridiculous. -

LOL monique - children being corrupted!
children are more corrupted by the dogmatism of the church, or so history tells us
as does mr pullman
hence, the chapter in the amber spyglass entitled ‘vodka’
and btw, tbh, wehn i first read the books i was a kid, and i just didnt understand the deeper messages at all lol they went right over my head.
bt wehn i read them again as i got older i suddenly understood the rationality of it all
and i just love them
theyre my favourites
so yeah, dw about kids being corrupted lol
i think they get more corrupted by molestation, and rape and that tbh ..

Completely agree with John
I don’t see how its a corrupting influence giving children a different perspective on life and religion.
Certainly over here in the UK, children at most schools are encouraged to lead a Christian lifestyle, seemingly without any rational behind this.
I wouldn’t use corrupt, I’d say it could open the eyes! It is blasphemous, but doesn’t blasphemy only apply if its saying something against your own religion?
Also, who’s to say that they are simply children’s books?
I don’t no many children’s books in which one of the main characters gets shot, dies and is then eaten by his best friend, who happens to be a bear =P Its like Roald Dahl, few of RD’s books were actually meant for children when you look at them carefully =D -
Iorek's Girl
I Love these books but i sort of agree with Monique, I thought they were a bit blasphemous. But I stil llove them (but I won’t let my mom read them) And Rose, I kind of agree with you that Lyra’s dress was weird, but it was different and I admire individuality. Oh and Mikey, completely agree with you on that last paragraph (ew).

WOW! Dakota is really pretty! I love the books! I cant wait for the Subtle knife!!

Personally, I think The Golden Compass is turning out to be a very promising film.
I read the books, and I thought they were good, although I thought the content was a bit on the blasphemous side,
I’m glad they didn’t focus too much on it for the movie, because young people may watch it and be corrupted by some of Pullman’s wilder ideas.
Good work on the bear and the flying scenes!!
P.S. I love Eva Green’s dress! It looks like a modern kimono!!!
